And why the heck you need one like ... NOW!
I hate to break it to you, but branding is just a buzzword. In fact, I think it’s been thrown around so much that it’s lost a little of its clarity. I hear some business owners say, “I have a logo, so doesn’t that mean I have a brand?” While others say, “A brand is only for big or established businesses, so I don’t need one”. Guess what, those are all myths!
So what the heck is a brand, then? Ohh… it is much more than a logo with a pretty color palette paired with trendy fonts!
One of my favorite quotes from Seth Godin sums it up best.
A brand is the set of
expectations, memories, stories, and relationships that, taken together, account for a consumer’s decision to choose one product or service over another.
Because I love things short and sweet, I put this great quote into a simple equation:
So you see, a brand is much more than a “pretty” or “trendy” logo. In order to have a brand, you need something that is a little more meaningful for your client to hire you over someone else. By simply adding your story within your brand, we create a brand that is trustworthy, memorable and authentic, rather than a brand that is just trendy today and irrelevant tomorrow. A brand is what is going allow you to stand apart from your competition.
For this reason, I believe EVERY business owner needs a brand. You need someone will combine your style with your story to help you create a brand that people will choose over others.
